Database server is down

It is amazing how much my work relies on one database.
For more than two hours I see this message:
(Can't contact the database server: Too many connections (dbmaster))

I don't have access to bugzilla to wiki, I cannot even download eclipse distros.

Do you think I should take day off ? ;)

Instead I will work on data binding tutorial (Yes I know that taking day off is better idea ;)

We would LOVE to split those critical databases out into several clusters of masters/slaves so that each has its own cluster. The problem is that we are running on donated hardware and what we were given is a few really big boxes. That means we have everything packed into a single master/slave pair. We lost one of the two big boxes last week due to hardware problems. That left us running on one box. When the DB went south... well, you get the picture. We're looking into a new architecture for next year's budget cycle.
